Snecca V0.999 (First "Full" Release)

Hello, anyone who might be reading this!

I've been in a creative slump for a long time; my most significant strength is simultaneously my most prominent weakness, my creativity and aspirations to combine ideas, have kept me from ever being particularly realistic with any of my ideas. After a few years of poking my head into game development and redetermining over and over again what my boundaries should be and how I set them, I finally managed a small and concisely neat game concept. It would finally be both temporally pecuniary, deceptively simple, and quite interesting, from my point of view.

It's quite straightforward of a concept, given that you've ever seen the classic arcade game "Snake". Here, the player character defies the basic rules set out by that game and ends up answering and raising some intriguing questions about what comes as a consequence of placing the importance of the space between your body parts in a distinctly different kind of way.

The dynamic isn't made one-sided in the other direction, though. Almost by accident, I formed situations where the player needs to deliberately avoid cutting their tail off followed by an immediate and dynamic shift to wanting a specific segment off of them. Of course, the introduction of different "apple" types opens up a whole new world which I'm considering returning to when my creative juices aren't being impeded by life decisions, school, and other design passions I'm trying to squeeze in between, but some ideas:

Multiply apple - adds the same type of block as is currently on your tail (or at your neck - could be interesting as well)

Bomb - wouldn't need any adding of a new apple, just eating the already-existent stationary bomb item would make the player's head turn increasingly red with a countdown timer like those found above turrets, making them blow up blocks around them, shoot a fireball, lose a tail piece - the possibilities there are endless

Destructible block - this was one I was really close to dedicating a few hours to, but opted for some polish - this would act precisely as the currently-implemented destructible blocks would, but, similarly to doors, lasers which destroy this tail piece sever everything after it, allowing for some cool and different "remote bites"

Some other cool additions would have been some other button-activated items, perhaps one-way gates or blocks/buttons that only activate when a piece that's carrying a Traveler is pressing on it, etc. There were many times when I did really want to go down those paths, but I think that, design-wise, it was also wise to not venture down those roads, as some sort of ruin the purity of the game, which, in its current state, is the fortunate balancing factor that compensates for the depth that's possible with some of the mechanics I mentioned above in some potential future build.

Anyway, that's my ramble. Here's to more successful and realistic projects down the line, and influential stories told through them.

Stay safe and keep thinking. If you're interested in working with me on something for some reason, hit me up. I'm always interested in making friends, especially those of the Dev variety. :)
